The Action Minded Program

Action Minded is an evidence-based, first-of-its-kind digital community health intervention to reduce mental health stigma. The program uses four primary strategies designed to reach and engage different segments of the public, with messages and actions tailored for audiences at different stages of knowledge, awareness, and support for mental health.

the strategy

Education-Based

Education-based strategies focus on mental health literacy to improve knowledge and awareness of mental health and the impact of stigma, in order to correct misinformation and contradict stereotypes surrounding mental health conditions.

the campaign

Therapy Pets

The campaign invites people to submit photos and videos of their pets, which are paired with simple educational, anti-stigma-related messages.

the strategy

Contact-Based

Lack of contact between individuals with mental health conditions and those without can lead to distrust and fear. Contact-based strategies help overcome this by facilitating positive interactions that challenge stereotypes and emphasize commonalities between those living with and without mental health conditions.

the campaign

LikeOneAnother

Individuals share their stories along with photos or video to show that mental health condition or not, we’re more LikeOneAnother than we are different.

the strategy

Collective Impact

Addressing mental health stigma isn’t something one organization can tackle on its own. Action Minded partners with organizations across the country to support their important work by developing materials that amplify stigma reduction messages to a much larger audience.

the campaign

Community Partners

Materials are created based on partner priorities, but made available to all organizations in our Download Center. Partner with us to develop your own set of mental health stigma fighting materials.

the strategy

Advocate-Based

The advocacy driven strategy is designed for those who want to do more to reduce mental stigma. The strategy gives engaged individuals simple actions to take that directly support stigma reduction.
